    Description

Hi! PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY AND IN ITS ENTIRETY!  THIS IS THE 28th HEAVY JAPANESE BASE PACK I HAVE EVER WEIGHED! A number of Ebayers had started asking me last October and November to consider weighing Base Japanese packs since--unlike the Jungle, Fossil, Team Rocket and many other Japanese sets--there is no guarantee that there is a holo in every pack of Japanese Base! I thought about it a lot and finally decided to weigh a small percentage of my Japanese Base packs. I weighed three other packs for this auction. The others  weighed 16.35, 16.42 and 16.44 grams. AS YOU CAN SEE, THIS ONE WEIGHS about 16.67 grams (see photos front and back that were taken three seconds apart) Does that mean I can guarantee there is a holo in here? No, but I would say your odds are pretty good  since this pack weighs about .23 grams more than the heaviest of the two others. My best guess is that you have AT LEAST A 90% TO 95% CHANCE THAT THIS PACK CONTAINS A HOLO! Having now weighed a total of 113 Japanese Base packs, my best estimate is that any pack that weighs 16.60 grams or more would be very likely to contain a holo. (Could a pack weigh 16.55 and still have a holo? Yes, but as the weight goes below 16.60, the odds go down.) To further confirm the  estimated 16.60 grams cutoff for Japanese Base packs, I have now weighed 148 non-Base Japanese packs ranging from Fossil, Jungle, Team Rocket, Gym Heroes, Neo Discovery, Challenge (Gym Heroes 2) and Neo Genesis. ALL OF THEM weighed between 16.59 grams and 17.13 grams. REMEMBER, ALL OF THOSE JAPANESE SERIES ARE GUARANTEED TO HAVE A HOLO EVERY PACK, SO ANY JAPANESE BASE PACK THAT IS 16.60 GRAMS  OR HEAVIER IS "HEAVY" AND MOST LIKELY CONTAINS A HOLO. AND THIS IS THE 11TH HEAVIEST JAPANESE BASE PACK I HAVE EVER WEIGHED. Of course, the Japanese Base is where you find Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur and his friends--if you get a pack with a holo. AND YOU HAVE AT LEAST A 90% CHANCE OF GETTING A HOLO IN THIS PACK!  This is what started it all. This is a Japanese BASE PACK of Pokemon. Factory sealed, of course. It came out in Japan in  the fall of 1996. Who knew? I have been selling Pokemon since January of 1999 at the Mall. As of August 1, 2020, I am now longer at the Mall, so this is how I try to make a living. I said several months ago that I thought the Japanese Base packs would be selling for more than English Base packs by 2025. I no longer believe that. I think it will be in the next year--or sooner!  The amount of Japanese Base boosters that was produced is a tiny fraction of the packs in English. I would guess that for every Japanese Base pack made, there were 2,000 times to 5,000 times more English Base packs produced. Maybe more! Remember, Wizards of the Coast printed tons of English Base packs and Hasbro--which purchased Wizards in September 1999--went back on press and printed several tons more. How many did Hasbro print. If you told me they printed eight million additional English Base packs, that would not surprise me. Ten million? Eighteen million? Who knows? When I was at the Mall in 1999, I was selling 50 packs a day of English Base in September when everyone believed--rightly-- that Wizards had retired Base, Jungle and Fossil by the end of June 1999. Then, after Hasbro printed more, I went from selling 50 packs a day of English Base to selling 5 packs a week (!)--and that was after I dropped my prices from a pack to a pack!!! I kid you not. Even though I had a fair amount of Japanese Base packs that I purchased in 1999, several years ago I started buying some more Japanese packs. I now wish I had bought even more. Forget the supply issue for a moment. The artwork on the Japanese cards in my opinion is far superior than the English Pokemon cards. It is not even close. (Japanese Fossil and Neo Genesis are my all time favorite Pokemon series.) My wife--who has never collected anything in her life--started collecting Japanese Pokemon in 1999. I once sold a beautiful Japanese Charizard from these packs eight years ago. Boy, did I give that away!
    Now, the rules:
    1) High bid wins! Duh. Remember a bid, for example, of 6.03 beats a bid of 6.00 so bid strategically. I have won more than 150 auctions on Ebay over the past 20 years with a bid that was a penny or two more than the next highest bidder.  2) Winner to pay within four days of auction's end. Paypal preferred but other payment options are fine.  Please add .85 for insured shipping with signature required services if you live in the continental U.S. I also ship worldwide through Ebay's Global Shipping Program. There is a fee for this service. See Ebay for details.  3) If you have a question, please ask. AND IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD THIS, PLEASE DO NOT BID. 4) Please check my other Pokemon listings. 5) I am proud of my  perfect feedback on Ebay, encompassing more than 6,500 separate buy and sell transactions over the past 20 years.  As some of you may know, I am leaving at least 90% of all my Pokemon to my children, so I do not have a lot left to sell. 6) Check my other Pokemon auctions and some of my Pokemon Buy It Now listings. Thanks for your interest. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS PACK IS VERY HEAVY.   Jerry P.S.  AGAIN, BASED ON THE WEIGHT OF THIS PACK, I WOULD SAY YOU HAVE AT LEAST A  90 TO 95% CHANCE OF GETTING A HOLO. I only give 100% guarantees on two things: 1) We are all going to die (what a bummer!) and 2) The sun rises in the East and sets in the West Happy bidding! P.P.S. If you think the price of Japanese Base packs is high now, you are WRONG! (I have already sold Japanese Base packs on Ebay within the last three months for 0.)  Wait a few years and see what prices will be. Actually DON'T wait a few years. We are at the beginning of Pokemon values. If I am wrong, you might lose a few bucks. Just think what my children will lose since they will inherit at least 90% of it! P.P.P.S. I have been wrong many times in my life--but about Pokemon I have been mostly right.  I ALWAYS COMBINE SHIPPING IF YOU WIN MULTIPLE ITEMS WITHIN A FOUR DAY PERIOD. PLEASE NOTE. I have on two occasions in the past 10 weeks sold a Japanese heavy weighted pack for MORE than a heavy weighted English heavy weighted Base pack DURING THE SAME WEEK! True. A final note: I ONLY HAVE ABOUT THREE OR FOUR HEAVY JAPANESE BASE PACKS LEFT TO SELL.
